I was wondering what could be the problem with my crossfire mode because every time its activated i lose frames. for example i play battlefield 4 and get around 55-60 fps with it off and then I get 17-22 when its activated (on ultra) i have uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled but that didnt change anything. please help! Also my cards are HD7970's one is the oc version.

What cpu you got? Maybe its bottlenecking.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/03/04/bf4_amd_mantl... says its the game itself plus amd driver shortcomings

Google stuff!

its not just battlefield but that is just the most recent and most extreme example also its a 3.50 gigahertz Intel Core i7-2600K

You can easily run that CPU at 4.5GHz. I've seen a lot of those hit 5GHz.

See if that improves framerate.

OC is pretty easy. Study this, then post any specific questions.

so far it seems to be that when i have crossfire turned off it works as if it is on and when i select it to be on it works even worse than the card by itself when i play bf4 one ultra i get around 70-80 fps and thats when crossfire is off then when its turned on it gives me a 25-30 fps

You won't have to overclock the cpu. I think it's more of a case of what hardOCP reported.

Google other games eg 'crysis 3 crossfire' and see what comes up

Even at that speed you shouldn't be getting such poor fps with crossfire enabled, do you have both bridges installed? Good old reliable SB and super easy overclocking even my great grandpa at the age of 88 could do that with a little instruction lol. SB is easy mode due to its better thermals.

Wow maybe your PSU starts choking when both cards are activated. What is your PSU model?

It doesn't give your psu.
