Looking for a rig suggestion.
My old rig spec :
Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 Micro ATX AM3
Sapphire 7870 ghz Ed 2gb
Gskill Ripjaws x2 2gb
Cougar RS 550W

I want to upgrade to am3+ with FX8350 and r9 280x card..im confused with the other parts. I appreciate all the help i can get before 23 cuz i will bring this rig to compete in a local competition :)

Thank you very much for the suggestions. Ill be using it for gaming and multitasking that's why i went FX 8350 but with your suggestions i think ill consider going Intel for now.
 
You can't get an AMD mATX or mini-ITX build because there are no 970 or 990FX chipset motherboards in that size. Technically, you could do it with a lower quality motherboard but it's not advised because the 970 and 990FX chipsets are the "real" FX motherboards.

The XFX psu is better quality and you always want a good quality psu.
