So I built my first PC today. I can't seem to use my ethernet port for some odd reason. If anyone had this issue with the ASUS Z97-PRO (wi-fi) knows how to fix this. Let me know.

if it the onboard ethernet or wifi card. make sure under the efi bios under onboard devices it turned on. also check that the asus mb shield fingers not shorting the port out. if the port is on and working you see one led on all the time and another one blinking. the port wont work till the intel mb chipset drivers, ethernet drivers and intel mei drivers are installed.

Post your build. All this is a bit vague.

if your using a router make sure your not using the wan port. check that the ethernet cable seated. n the router see if the data led is blinking on the port you plugged your cable into. if your using a cable modem or router try logging in (192.168.1.1) see if the hardware log in screen pops up.

I didn't use any of the disks because I didn't buy a drive.

on another pc copy the driver folder on the mb cd to a usb stick or from asus web page download the newest 8.1 driver to the usb stick.

'I didn't use any of the disks because I didn't buy a drive.'

Download the drivers from your motherboards site on to a flash drive using another computer. install the drivers via flash drive on the new computer.

Have a look in Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Adapters. Are there any in there? Are they working OK? Do they need the driver updated?

The only adapters there, is my wifi and bluetooth. Doesn't let me update my Ethernet Controller. Is that it?

in the bios look on the onboard devices it says sound and ethernet port. by default there enabled. you need to install the intel chipset drivers first then intel mei driver. then reboot for the sound and ethernet driver to install.
