Reduce CPU temp without replacing stock fan so heavy games wont throttle/stutter?

Hello, I'm currently running an i7 4770k with a stock cooler, and when playing heavy games (assassin's creed black flag, far cry 3 etc.) the temps go up to 80~85 on some cores, making my game stutter. Is there any way to reduce this heat to a temp that wont make my games stutter when the temp goes to high without replacing heatsink?

On not so demanding games (hearthstone, league of legends, gmod) the temp doesn't go over 60, giving me a very smooth gaming experience without any stutters, so I'm pretty sure it's a heat problem thats giving me the stutters.

Solution
Dear are you using case fans for air flow. How are you coping with the heat being generated by the GPU? Besides what i7baby has suggested pl ensure that your case has good air flow particularly ensure that heat air is being thrown out effectively.

Why am I experiencing stutters then when my temp goes above 75 degrees? I don't have any problems when it's below that temp. I run a R9 290 Tri-X and a i7 4770k. Far Cry 3 can run smooth on ultra but the occassional stutter is ruining it for me.

My air flow in the case is rather low, does opening the case help?

Well may not but there is nothing wrong giving it a try but that would also make it a case for more dust on the components.

I'll give it a try, otherwise I might just buy a new cpu heatsink because 85 degrees is way too much imo and causes my game to not run smoothly anymore. (getting stutters now and then while just standing still)

The heat from my GPU really heats up the CPU as well and temps go like 85 to 87. Eventually, I started using Noctua Nh-U14S. My Corsair SP-120 series fans cope really well for proper air flow. Now temps are under tab and I have a excellent game play. Love my EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC with 4770

@ minkey: Opening the case is a common enough action to take if things are getting too hot, just be aware that it will result in faster than normal dust build up and is very, very risky to do if you have animals or small children in the house, cats in particular love to play with wires!
Whatever case the system is installed in you must maximise its airflow, the R9 290X generates a lot of heat which needs to be removed, at the very least install good, strong fan/s in the front to push a good flow of cool air into the case, the Corsair SP120 Performance Edition (High static pressure 1350 RPM model) is very effective if the case has air filters in the front intake panel.

Thanks for the info, opening the case actually reduced my temps from 85 to 62!! and removed all the throttling/stuttering. Thanks a lot for the help!
