I have been putting together what I thought would be the ultimate gaming computer...all parts in and working well...running Windows 8.1 Pro. But I am not able to get my MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC Motherboard to even see my GEFORCE GTX 770. I am using a 1000 Watt BE Quiet powersupply..so yes...I have the power : - )

Things I have already tried:
1. Bought an identical graphics card - didn't work
2. Tried using one of the other PCI-E ports - didn't work
3. Updated Windows 8.1 with all updates
4. Updated Bios
5. Reset the motherboard using the CMOS reset
6. Integrated Graphics is set to secondary boot...with 'PEG' set to primary
7. Called NVIDIA...they say it should work and that the two components are compatible -- no help
8. The motherboard dashboard says that the slot is empty...even though the game card is plugged in...has power... the fan and lights on the game card on.
9. Have removed and reseated the game card multiple times.
10. Still trying to get through on the phone to MSI...

Any suggestions?

Thank you!!!!

Ben

Some motherboards have a switch to turn the PCI slot ON or OFF for trouble shooting. Check and see whether your mobo has this feature and whether the slots are turned OFF by default.

- Thank you for the suggestion. I have now searched the motherboard and online and can't find a reference to a switch. Your idea makes sense...but can't find one yet.

It's a feature on some EVGA motherboards and is used for trouble shooting.

Another thing to look for is whether there is an auxiliary power input on the motherboard to supply additional power to the graphics cards when more than one card is used. This is in addition to the 6-pins PCI power supplied to the card itself.

It is also possible that the motherboard is bad. Look into an RMA.

Hello,

I'm in the same situation as you. Same motherboard and video card are Asus GFX770. Did you solve your problem? What was the solution in your case? Could you share it?

Similar problem I have found on MSI Forum https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=181073.0

Thank you

Unfortunately, neither manufacturer could figure out the problem. Each one of them were very helpful...but after having us go through almost every step we had already tried... they declared it was a bad motherboard... so we returned the Motherboard and ordered a new one. The new one works fine...however, on both motherboards we were/are not able to get the bluetooth/wifi (that comes with the board) to work -- they don't have an answer for that either.... We love the motherboard...just too bad they seem to have some issues. In conclusion: It was a motherboard issue.

Hope this helps!!

Hello B Gammer

Thank you for your post.

In my case the WiFi/Bluetooth are also not available. Even not seen in Device Manager. In the beginning I've thinked that was the problem of wrong drivers chosen to install, but now, it could be the motherboard issue.

Thanks a lot!
