WD hardrive I/O error

I have a WD my passport external hardrive and it keeps saying I/O error which means I can even open the device folder to see the files or add anymore, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you try to plug it in different USB ports? I/O error often appears when some internal cables are disconnected or damaged.

Test it with WD "Data LifeGuard Diagnostic for Windows": http://support.wd.com/product/download.asp?groupid=304&sid=3&lang=en

(ignore the picture of the external drive on the download page, it doesn't matter about the actual model)
