Overclocking my components

I'm planning to overclock some of my components though I really don't want to hurt any of them. So, these are my current components:
CPU - AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition
GPU - Nvidia GTX 660 WindForce
RAM - 8 GB RAM ( Crucial )
MOBO - 970A-D3

I don't have any good coolers right now, just 2 old ones ( and the stock for the CPU ) but the temp was never over 70 degrees.

What should I know before overclocking any of my components? Also could you recommend me a good cpu fan that's 20-25 euros? I was planning to get the Deepcool GAMMAXX 300 but if you know a better one, feel free to help :). Also I have a 650 w power supply.

Good budget air coolers for that CPU are:

Xigmatek Gaia
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Keep your CPU core voltage below 1.5v max, with 1.475 recommended as the maximum for a 24x7 daily use overclock.

Keep your temps below 56c under full load.

Read an overclocking guide that discusses CPU NB voltage, FSB/MoBo NB voltage, HT voltage, as well at the related frequency multipliers for the 965.

*** IMPORTANT *** -> Your motherboard does not have any VRM MOSFET cooling. It will not be a good idea to try overclocking with that board.

I suggest something like a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P as your next upgrade instead. It is reasonably priced, will support up to an FX 8350 and has 8+2 phase power and LLC. It...

Do not try to OC until you get a better motherboard. But the 965 is still a decent performer and can reach the 4.0 GHz mark pretty easily *IF* you have a good board and good cooling. If you were to upgrade your board, CPU and CPU cooler together, 4.4-4.5 GHz is easily attainable with an FX 6300 and the 212 EVO cooler. FX 6350 can usually go a little higher on similar voltage as the 6300.

Damn..I didn't think about mobo getting a high temp. Hopefully I can sell my current one and get the one you said but, could you be more specific about some things? Like:
1. Would it really be worth changing the mobo?
2. Will I see a noticeable difference if I overclock my CPU?
3. Can I overclock RAM?

I'm gonna search more on google for that but I just want to know from start if it would be worth getting a new motherboard. This one is pretty cool to be honest but about the temperature, I've noticed it's pretty big ( i used a program called speedfan ) and it got me a little worried. So the exact questions would be, is it safe if i overclock my cpu and will I see better performance?
