Hi All,

Current CPU Spec:
1) AMD FX 8350 Processor
2) ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 Mother board
3) CORSAIR VS 550 Power Supply.
4) CORSAIR Vengeance 8 GB Ram
5) XFX 9600 GTX GPU
6) Creative Audigy 2 Sound Card.
7) Focusrite Scarlett Studio External Sound Card.
8) Seagate 1 tb HDD
9) Non Branded Cabinet (Zebronics)

Problem: I upgrade the processor , mobo and the RAM retaining all the other components from my old AMD Athlon processor. I have enabled auto overclocking in the Bios as i am not much aware of Overclocking setup. Now the CPU temperature shoots between 65 C - 75 C. I know this is not good for my processor. This happens when i load games in Facebook. I upgraded to this setup for starting with my passion towards music. So i use few DAW softwares and the Sample sizes are too huge.

I need few recommendations to over come this problem should i opt for a better cabinet with liquid cooling or just a better cabinet will solve my problem. I have a cabinet in mind (Cooler Master HAF 912 Combat with Side Window CPU Cabinet). Please do help me with your valuable suggestion.

Thanks,
Manoj Chakravarthy L

That board has a good quality digital 6+2 phase VRM, so OCing should be pretty stable.

I would not use the AUTO settings, they almost always go too generous with the voltage. This creates unnecessary heat.

Make sure you have a good aftermarket cooler. Just because it worked OK on your previous CPU does not mean it is enough for an FX 8 core. They can have a TDP over 200w when overclocked.

I wouldn't use anything less than a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO on this CPU, and then 4.4-4.5GHz on near stock voltage is the limit for that cooler.

Most of the time, FX 8350 can do 4.4-4.5 GHz on stock voltage. Start tweaking manually there.

I would double-check and make sure you are using the appropriate thermal reading programs; reading temperatures is kind of a sticky art.

Anyway, I had a M5A97 EVO (non-r2.0) and I could not overclock my FX too much. Even at 4.3, my VRMs would overheat and my motherboard would throttle my CPU. You may have better luck, but keep a close eye on your components. This said, following in the footsteps of others, I would halt your overclocking, and, furthermore, check to ensure you have proper airflow. You may need to invest in a more fans, or a different case.

Thanks to all for your reviews. For sure i will get the HAF Cabinet. Is it worth spending money on the Corsair H100i Cooler. And will it support the HAF Cabinet?

Update : I am attaching a screen shot of my current CPU temperature. And also i find that CPU-Z shows my core speed as 1406 Mhz but the base speed of the processor is 4000Mhz. And i have disable some of the power features in Bios. I am getting some warning now and then when i run the test too.

Even though you haven't reached the CPU Socket thermal threshold, it looks like the CPU is throttling, for whatever reason. Is it possible to get a screenshot of HWMonitor, with it just scrolled down a touch further, so we can see your CPU Core temperatures?

I friends i really appreciate all the help i am receiving from this forum for my issue but i have not got any updates after i have posted the other requested information in the forum. I need to know if i can place the Cooler Master EVO 212 or the Corsair H100i in the Cooler Master HAF 912 cabinet. Based on your opinion i will be purchasing the products. Thanks in advance.

79C socket / 78C Core temperature is far above recommended levels. According to the link SR-71 linked, the H80i will fit your case - that should be enough to conquer your processor.

Hopefully upgrading the case will allow for a proper airflow, so your components are affecting one-another.

Thanks Calculatron. My last doubt is out of these two coolers which one would you suggest for me.

1) Cooler Master 212 EVO
2) Cooler Master H80i

For sure i am going with the Cooler Master HAF 912 Cabinet.
