Hey everyone I recently had this computer built... it has a couple VGA / DVI ports as well as one HDMI port...But when I try to connect it to my ASUS monitor it only ever connects through the VGA, am I doing something wrong? This is my first build.. so sorry if this is a stupid question.. is there any program I have to configure on my computer?? Why does only one combination of ports work? I'm confused :S Appreciate all and any input! Thank you in advance!

The idea is that you connect your monitor through the graphics card, otherwise it is useless

So how would I be able to connect the monitor to HDMI? or in the future add another monitor? are those ports essentially duds?

Is it supposed to be on VGA?

Hey here is the monitor I have : ASUS VE247H 23.6IN Widescreen LED LCD 1920X1080 2MS 10M1DC HDMI DVI-D VGA Speakers.

It has one of each connection; one HDMI, one VGA and one DVI. But no matter what is plugged in when I hit source on the monitor only VGA works.

Thank you for the replies guys!

Just to clarify you are plugging the VGA cable into the graphics card (770), and not your motherboard (by the USB ports).

As far as I can tell there are NO GTX 770's with a VGA port.

Is this your card? http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-SuperClocked-Graphic...
You have 2x DVI, one HDMI and one Displayport. No VGA. It does have a DVI to VGA adapter, which you would have to connect.

Make sure you are not plugging it into these:

Yep thats the card! And, ok I think I had it plugged into the ones near the USB, (I'm at work now so I'll double check when I'm home) and sorry I just assumed it did have VGA because when i hit source on the monitor it would just automatically go to VGA because that was the only one that worked.. I also tried putting in the HDMI also to no avail

If there is a graphics card installed, your motherboard will want to use that primarily, which may be why only VGA works if you are using the motherboard header (for diagnosing problems or something). When you use the motherboard connector you wont get the processing power of the GTX 770 you installed, so it would just more or less sit there.

Yeah, you need to plug it into the card it self, not the motherboard as that will use the integrated graphics.

As it seems the motherboard graphics are still enabled/working, you will have to enable the "peg/pci express graphics" as the first priority video output in bios, and then connect to either of the four ports of your graphics card and tell us if it works now.

Ok, once I get home from work (Going to be a few hours!) I'm going to make sure they are plugged into the graphics card and nothing else, if that doesn't work i'm going to check the BIOS and make sure to set it to peg / pci express graphics and I'll keep you posted on the results. Again thanks for the help guys, appreciate it!
