So about 6 months ago I tried to power on my PC, the fans started going, then it turned off after a few seconds. Tried to troubleshoot then but didn't have the money for another PSU, so I left it. Didn't use the PC since then and decided to give it another go today, and it worked absolutely fine, and I had it on for about 10 hours until it turned off and I was in the same situation as before.
Here are the steps I've taken:
1. Disconnected the PSU and used a paperclip to connect the green and a black connector, the PSU turned on fine.
2. Connected just the 24-pin connector to the motherboard. As soon as I turn the switch on the PSU the computer tries to power on and fails.
3. Disconnected the power switch pins. Same problem, as soon as I turn on the PSU switch the computer tries to turn on and fails.
I'm stumped at the moment, at first I thought it was the PSU but it seems that is working okay. Maybe a short circuit somewhere? I just hope it is not the motherboard that is broken. The computer is about three and a half years old and I've never overclocked it.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: AMD Athlon 3.80GHz, ASUS motherboard (sorry, not sure which one), 8GB DDR3 RAM, 2x1TB hard drives, GTX 460 1GB graphics card, Corsair CX600 power supply.
