Hello! I currently have a 280x in my system and would like to game at 4K in the future, would it be more worth it to get a second 280x? will they scale better than one 290x or a 780ti? I would like to think that it would get better frame rates than the single better GPU, I understand that it's sometimes better to go with one powerful GPU to avoid tearing or any other annoyances but i have been looking around and i cant find a comparision of 280x's in crossfire vs another stronger GPU and i just want to know about frame rates. Thanks!

2 X R9280Xs would be a like 'tweaked' newer version of a dual-GPU HD7990.

You would not be leaving much on the table :)

Too early for proper 4k gaming with current cards IMO, 2x 280x wont game at 4k very well without lowering the settings a lot.

I don't believe that they would reach ultra settings or any of the nicer feature like Vsync or something like that, but at high with no Vsync i think it might work out ok, maybe not like 60 frames avg probably closer to 45 right?

Anandtech: Some Quick Gaming Numbers at 4K -- Max Settings

Sleeping Dogs & Dirt are there, too.

I'll take a wild swing at it and put 2xR9280Xs 2-3 frames above the HD7990 because of the higher core clocks, more fresh bins and faster VRAMs.

thanks, i was looking for a comparison like this, yeah that seems like how i thought it would go, i guess i should just wait awhile before investing into anything past 1440p

I think that is a sensible decision. 4k monitors will get better and cheaper, and the next gen cards will no doubt cope better.
