So I was planning to upgrade my cpu since now I have 4gb of ram and an hd7770. My question is I have compared my pentium e2160 to some core 2 duos and quads and some feedback say if you o/c an e2160 it will be just as powerful. Is that true? And assuming it is true I was thinking of o/cing it to 2.77 Ghz (300Mhz fsb). But I was also thinking of o/cing an e2180 instead for bigger multipliers. but this is really concerning me. Should I go with the e2160 or the e2180 to overclock?

Well personally I would upgrade to the Pentium (Overclockable) new Haswell CPU coming out soon, if it were me.

Here's Tom's link to the Pentium CPU

I forgot to ask if you had a budget for this or if you just were going to buy a CPU only and try to make things a bit better than what you currently have.

Neither CPU is exactly all that good anymore. Time to get a more modern setup. Even a lowly Celeron or Pentium G of the current Haswell gen would be far faster.

Well, my budget really is 3000Php ($68.51). I'm not planning to upgrade my mobo since your link is saying it's socket lga 1150. Or if you could suggest some 1150 mobos with both ddr2 and ddr3 ram slots. (currently have 2x2gb ddr2 sticks.) or haswells in lga 775. I was looking at some core 2 extremes and they're not available at any store in our country and shipping across the pacific costs a lot so if you could find something with the same performance I'd prefer you'd find from here.

Hmmm that is a tough one. Your current selection sounds like your on s775, so that limits what you can do. It's going to be hard to find a decent upgrade with your budget. Even if you stick with your s775 Mobo or try to upgrade just the CPU, I'm afraid that you might not find a CPU that fits your budget and will make a decent upgrade for you. I'm assuming that your wanting more performance for gaming?

There are a lot of things that will limit your upgrade options on s775. I would shoot for a q6600 or better or even the e8400/e8500 dual cores, if you can still find them. You might also be limited on which CPU's you can use, because your Mobo might/might not support some of the newest CPU's for that socket (I don't know). If you could list your Mobo that you have, we can try and help you find out what CPU's are supported by that Mobo.

well, according to this it can support some core 2 multicores and, as I said I only have ddr2 slots. I was planning on getting this too 'cause I was planning to go 8Gb with a core 2 quad and crossfire hd7770's but I have two pciex1 devices. a wireless network card and an HD 7.1 surround sound card that I am dying to use. Another question will be should I crossfire and go 4-monitor eyefinity('cause my friend does and he owns every game he plays) or not.('cause my sister's hd7770 will be replaced with a gtx650.)
