Any time you convert a signal, you lose some strength and introduce noise. More than likely, you won't notice it though. It will depend on the quality of the equipment involved. What gfx card do you have that has no VGA option?

Which make/model? The DVI-I port has VGA at its 4 pins surrounding the flat blade. You simply need to use the DVI to VGA adapter that came with it. If you don't have the adapter, pick up one of these: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Professional-Cable-DVI-Female...

The signal is already converted from digital to analog inside the card.

If this is a pre-built, then chances are you won't be getting the 'extras' that are usually packed with the components if you were to buy parts yourself. I would pop into Wally World (or go to Amazon, Newegg, etc) and pick up the DVI/VGA adapter. That's what everyone that has an older VGA monitor uses. HDMI to VGA converters are expensive, undependable, and add an extra layer of signal distortion to the output. Plus, there's no need for such a thing in your situation.

Most R9-270X cards will have 2 x DVI ports, 1 x HDMI port, and a Display Port. http://www.pcgameware.co.uk/images/MSI-270X-GAMING-OC-o...
Check the system you bought to see if it has that arrangement of output ports.

yeah it has and its not pre built tbh its custom built. i choose the parts etc and they are just building it. i will be contacting them and giving them an ear full if i dont get all the extras with the pc as thats what i have paid for. if i use a dvi to vga will the monitor be in 1080p with little to no quality loss ?

Yes, the resolution won't change. But it will only be what the monitor is able to display. If it is a 1080p monitor with only a VGA input, it will still display 1080p. The only difference in the signal is one is digital and one is analog.

Think of it this way... the card produces a native digital signal. If you have a digital monitor, it will use that signal with the least amount of loss.
If you have a digital monitor that only has a VGA input, the card uses its D/A converter to convert the signal to analog and send an analog signal to the VGA port on the monitor. The monitor will then use its A/D converter to change that analog signal back to digital for display. Two extra steps you would not need if you had a monitor that could receive a digital signal.

It will depond on your device quality. If you get it from Hdgenius or Amazon. Then i think it will not lose quality.
