Is i7 4930k compatible with Asus Z97 Pro?

Hi all, I need a 6 core CPU for HD video editing and like the features on the Asus Z97 Pro mobo. I can't, however, find any compatibility information on the two. The Intel site suggests using the Asus X79 with the i7 4930k and the Asus site recommends using the i7 4790.

I thought these were both new and near top of the line and assumed they would go well with each other.

Thoughts? Thanks!

the i7 4930 has a 2011 socket and the i7 4790 has a 1150 socket
the z97 motherboards are all 1150 sockets and the x79 boards have 2011 sockets
so NO they are not compatible

No they are not. They are totally different sockets.

They are incompatible, the cpu you have is socket 2011 while that mobo is socket 1150 so the cpu wont fit in it. They are both new high end parts just not ones meant for each other

For the i7 4930K, you will need a 2011 socket motherboard.

If you haven't bought the CPU yet, I would get the Z97 motherboard and an 1150 socket CPU.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. I need a 6-core processor so I will probably stick with the i7 4930k and look for a 2011 socket motherboard.

the Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition may be pricey but it´s the best 2011 Board out there
