Need a new GPU and I am looking for some advice $300-$500 range

Heya friends, So I have a gaming rig that was put together about 3 years ago. I have been adding different things to it over the years(i.e more memory, a SSD).

But because it was my first time building I seem to have skimped on the GPU a bit and I am finally ready to part ways because I am starting to notice not being able to play some games on higher settings.

I am just looking for some ideas on some favorite GPU's. Best bang for buck and what not. I did go through and read the article on GPU's here but I am still a little lost. Thanks for any help!

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE:About 1-2 weeks

BUDGET RANGE:$300-$500

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT:Gaming all the way, I don't need Ultra settings on every game but I would like it on the "higher" scale.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: ATI Radeon HD 5700 series and a 750W PSU

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:I have 16GB of RAM and a i7 2600k CPU

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS:I use Newegg a lot but if other sites are better/ have better prices I wont say no.

PARTS PREFERENCES:Because I have had a AMD card for a while, and I am seeing a lot of games not being optimized for AMD

I want to try Nvidia but if there is a AMD card that just beats everything else I will absolutely take a look

You leave lot of ambiguaty for your price range so ill give you 4 suggestions from newegg, but anythuing in that price range should be able to play above 30 fps on ultra or max (aside from crisis 3)

300-350 range:

Its a good card, and it pulls in a good 40-50 fps at high settings on most games (not crisis 3 though), and should hold above 30 all the time if you are running at high settings.

Its an nvidia option ,and also a decent card, considering in most games it gets the exact same benchmarks, 40-50 on high, less on ultra, just like the 280x.

400-500 range:

AMD: R9 290x...

For the highest end ($500) definitely a Radeon 290x or 290. For the lower end ($300) Probably a GTX 770.

The GTX770 does actually look good. Not a bad price as well. Thanks for all your help friends. Now, one last question. What exactly should you be looking for in a GPU? For example when shopping for CPU's I look for GHz and cores and what not. But what are the specs you need to look out most for? I know the amount of RAM is important but what else is there?

Amds best single card gpu to offer (aside from the overpriced 290x) the 290 tends to pull decent (40-55+) fps in most games on ultra or max settings, is the equivlant of an Nvidia titan or 780 TI

Nvidia's 780 TI is as powerful as a 290/x and while the 780 isnt as powerfull, this one has been factory overclocked which will help compinsate, so it will pull in 40-50 fps on ultra on most settings

That is very helpful thanks! Personally was never a huge fan of the crisis series *ducks for cover* so that isn't really a problem. From what I gather from your post it seems like the difference to me is whether I want that 45+ fps on high or ultra? Ultra requiring the higher price range of course.

basically, yea that would be the only difference, of cource, however, your fps will drop if you have 8x msaa, but basic alloy the difference is on high vs on ultra or max ,exept cysis and far cry
