Greetings.

A couple of days ago I finally upgraded my PC to z97 motherboard with i7-4790 CPU and trying to monitor it with AIDA64 just in case. And I noticed while in idle state the hottest component is the PCH, it's constantly on 49C while CPU is around 25C with GPU around 35C. Is it normal for PCH on z97 motherboard to be that hot while the PC is pretty much idle? Or should I attempt to install some better cooling in my PC case somehow?

I'm worrying a bit since a few years back I used to have a really bad experience with overheating x58 motherboard.

It is fine. The H87 chipset on my motherboard reaches 50°C. Though the temperature of PCH varies slightly at idle and load, like 2-3°C maximum.

So you'll be fine, though having a standard airflow in cabinet is essential (atleast 2-3× 120mm case fans)
