Yes - according to the Tom's Hierarchy chart, you'd be jumping up 10 tiers. That's a good upgrade.

What is your current graphics card? I think it would not hurt, if you aren't looking for miracles. The 240 is very much an entry level card, and the 4550 is -I don't want to say outdated- not necessarily a powerhouse. However, if you aren't running anything too taxing, I think it would be a pleasant cost effective combination that won't set you back too much. Depends on what you want. If you are looking to play BF4, I can't help you. If you are looking to play some older games or less taxing games, yeah, I think it might do decent for what you want.

You can use this to compare the specs. This site is nice for GPU's of the same brand because it compares raw data. But it's really only good for raw specs, don't take it as an actual comparison of real-world performance:

Aye its an upgrade, although I wouldn't give the gnawed bones of my last meal for that card...

An R7 240 is an R7 240, if you're going for cheap then go for the cheapest, doesn't make much of a difference with that poor of a card.

GDDR5 memory is at higher speeds and costs more, but considering your other components, I'm not sure whether it will pay any dividends. You want GDDR5 then you might as well go for R7 250, but I think it would be a bit too much.

so would it be worth getting the one with GDDR5 or no?
