Hi guys, this is my first post. Well I am 15 and when I was 14 I thought it would be time to build my first "gaming computer". I had no clue what I was doing at the time and I was on a budget. I decided to go with the horrible amd a-10 7850k APU. I could run games such as rust at a whole 25 fps! Which was devastating news at first. Then I heard I could buy a discrete GPU and use my APU as a dedicated CPU. So I bought the Evga GTX 750 TI Over Clocked. It came in the mail about last week. I got it working and everything was good until I tried to play games that use my CPU. Which is complete crap! I want to upgrade but I cant find a better CPU for the FM2/FM2+ socket! I want to upgrade to good cpu and my only option is to upgrade my mobo and cpu. I dont really have that much money to that so.

So this is where I need help. I want to upgrade my CPU without changing mobos unless I have too. Ive looked for processors that are better then mine that also fit inside of my socket but I cant find any. If you guys can find one for me that would be amazing. If you cant I was wondering how I would upgrade to an i5.

Solution
CPUboss is a horrible comparison site. The i3 4150 is far better than a 7850k. A k series CPU is not necessary either. An i3 4150 would pair up nicely with the GTX 750ti. I went with a more expensive motherboard, so you would have an upgrade path to broadwell next year, should you have a desire for more CPU speed.

I jsut want to get rid of this CPU and upgrade to something else. What would be a good option for replacing mobo and cpu?

that highly depends on how much $ you want to spend. Also do you have micro center where you live ? if you do you can get i5 and mobo package there for about $200

I don't know the AMD side, so I can't help you with alternative chips that I think will work for you.

I did want to respond to your last question ("how I would upgrade to an i5"). Obviously, Intel's chips use their own sockets. Depending on what year's i5 (soem of the older ones use LGA1155, some 1155, etc), you'd have to upgrade your MoBo to a MoBo with that socket.

That (new MoBo) has some knock on effects... Did you buy an OEM version of your OS? If so, you'll likely have to buy a new OS when you update your MoBo. Most OEM OS versions are motherboard specific: new MoBo, you need a new license. So factor in that cost! On the plus side, you might get other features with a new MoBo that make the sting of payign for a new OS not so bad, such as more/faster SATA ports, better BIOS for overlocking, etc.

Not a definitive answer for you, but hope it helps!

I guess the question remains...is it worth the incremental $125 more ($350 total) it will cost to buy like a i5 2500k, CPU cooler, and a decent MoBo?

What do you think about an i3 for the main games I play which is arma 2 and 3.

It would actually provide almost no benefit to go to an i3 it will perform almost the same as your current cpu.

My suggestion is just use what you have until you save enough$ to get something worthwhile the investment something like this would last you 3-4 years with 0 problems on maximum setting from games.

This would be my pick, if you do not intend to upgrade the system for awhile. Ignore the compatibility alert. The cpu is on the motherboard manufacturer's list. This would give you i7 4770 performance, and would last quite awhile.

Solution

ok so spend $205 to gain 5-15% performance gain at most sure makes a lot of sense not to mention you cant even overclock the i3 and you can the amd part.

The OP doesn't want to overclock, apparently, and just wants to get rid of the 7850k. I agree it makes more sense than buying an i3. Personally, I would go with the 1230v3 solution, I was just giving a lower cost replacement option with an upgrade path, really.
