After I restart my Win7 ASUS Laptop I get the following error:

Windows has has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
Status: 0xc00000e9

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

The harddrive is not listed as a boot option in the BIOS, only the DVD drive. Under Advanced, SATA Config, Serial ATA Port 0 is empty and port 2 has the DVD drive.

Any help or suggestions?

- Do you have the Windows 7 CD/DVD/USB media that you can boot to run a System Repair? Is your hard drive set to AHCI mode in Bios?
- Go to SeaTools and download the .iso SeaTools for DOS and burn it on a CD/DVD/USB and boot from it, see if the program will detect your hdd then run a Long diag test on the hdd.
