CD/DVD Drive has power but not detected by windows

I just installed a new msi motherboard and i installed it and re wired eveything. The cd drive has power and opens and closes properly but when i go to use it windows says i have no cd drive

What type of drive is it, SATA or IDE? Is its cable firmly in place on both ends? If it is IDE, did you by chance turn off that controller in the BIOS? If SATA, you may be limited to IDE mode (whereas you want AHCI or even RAID for your hard drives).

Did you load the drivers? Try maybe using a different sata port or cable.

It shouldn't need any drivers, but plug it into a SATA port that can be run in IDE mode (e.g. on a secondary controller, vs. the chipset).
