Well, i am very new to overclocking, and tbf i have barely any idea what i am doing, but if i just did a small overclock on the Core speed would it do anything drastic? Only like a 50MHz increase or something like that? Or could i do more? I know its sounds like a dummy question, but i really do not know.
Would overclocking an MSI R9 270X be ok?

often times increases of 200mhz or so are possible on core and memory however i recommend you consult a tutorial video or something before you proceed as you can damage your card.

As for performance gains., a fully OC card will usually perform 2-6% faster during gaming (ie 30 for -> 33fps or so)
but a 50 mhz oc is not likely to change much
