Hi guys!
I recently purchased an MSI GTX 750 ti to go in to my Dell precision 490 and as the title says i'm having no luck!

Everything worked and still is working with my previous ATi 5450 card but even though the new card requires the same specs (PCI Expres and no added power supply) it still wont show me anything.
After doing a bit of research a lot of the answers seem to be 2 beeps means a RAM problem but I don't really understand that since it works fine with my other card.

Has anyone got any ideas on what I need to do or buy to get this working?

Additional desktop info :
Intel Xeon Quad Core 2.33ghz
8gb RAM

Thanks in advance!

Hey thanks for the fast reply!
Some questions I was dreading. I know very little about motherboards other than this is the one in my desktop http://www.blueskyave.com/servlet/the-218/Dell-Precision-490-Motherboard/Detail

And I have never ran a BIOS, I know how to get into it on launch but can't do that once my new card is in as obviously I can't see anything?

Apologies for my lack on knowledge but I guess thats why I signed up :)

By not working, do you mean that your PC won't even start and post at all and beep, or that after going past the stage of OS loading you get beeps and blank screen?

For now Power off your system and Try cleaning the memory contacts if you haven't already.
After that, remove all modules expect for one and test, if still won't work, try to test with the other module.

If that didn't help, try re-seating your CMOS (motherboard battery), take it out for 1-2 minutes (of course to do all that power off your system), and then put it back in.

Come back to rapport, if it worked or not

By not work I mean when I turn it on no signal seems to go to the monitors at all. I can hear it loading till the beep but I don't get to see the dell screen with bios or windows screen. I'm going to give all you suggested when I get back from work. Thanks a lot.

Just to clear my mind is it possible it could be a compatibility issue and this card simply won't work with the precision 490?

Hey Kryss, just home now so going to try a few of these suggestions.
I did not un-install the old drivers the reason being after I searched it there seemed to be a hell of a lot of people saying it wasn't necessary! Could that possibly be the reason for a new card not working do you think?

Really appreciate all the help by the way

It could be, if non of any previous advices helped you.
Try that, you want to run your PC with old GPU you said it worked with, uninstall all old drivers, and it should prompt your PC to restart PC.
Do that, don't accept any prompts for Windows Update or driver installs when restarting and after restart.
So it restarted and you want to clean your registry, and then shut down your PC, again don't accept any updates from windows or drivers.
Swap GPU's, try to run it.

Raport if it helped on not.

Hey, I have the exact same PC but with a GTX 750, and I have the exact same issue as you! :)
I've come to believe the Dell Precision 490 doesn't support this graphics card for some reason, but I'm still trying to figure out why.
Have you managed to make a discovery yet? Are you still trying to get it to work?

Hey mate yeah I figured out in the end that the 490s motherboard doesnt support Graphics cards that need a PCI express slot newer than 1.0 (I think the 750 is a 3.0?) Anyway I ended up swapping my whole PC for a newer one with a family member to get the card working :(
