I have an 85inch Sony in the living room with a PC hooked up to it. Everything has been fine, running it 1080p etc with no problems. Today I turn the PC on and the PC screen will not stretch across the tv and it won't let me put it into 1080p resolution now. Everything runs fine, does everything correctly but I cannot get it to set into 1080p res, I click to set it, it goes to black screen for a moment and takes so long the option to click apply isn't there any more. It's like it is taking too long to find the resolution and just resets back to current resolution. This is the primary thing that has me curious because I have always ran it in 1080p.

This happened a while back on another PC and I did something (I forget what) and I reset it easily to normal, I just don't remember what it is? It will not allow me to set the PC to 1080p red and I cannot find where to stretch the screen but if memory serves me I didn't need to stretch anything, it was something I set that fixed everything back to normal. Sorry I am not very PC tech oriented.
edit: I checked the PS3 and PD4 on the tv both work fine, only the PC is having issues. Not sure if that helps or not..... as I said earlier, seems like it was a setting in the LCD that needed resetting. grrr I dunno :(

Go into Device Manager and display adaptors to make sure that your video card is correctly installed. it should show the name of your video card and not something like 'standard vga adaptor'

So I had went and shut everything off, went back to try your idea and everything was normal again. Have no clue what happened, I'll keep watch and if anything changes I will report back.

It is possible that Windows update (or Nvidia or ATI/AMD) updated your display drivers and you needed to reboot to reload the updated drivers.

Oh well, enjoy!
