According to Dell Support site the diagnostic test error msg received said the Seagate 1TB OS hard drive from my sons Dell XPS 8300 failed. It would not boot beyond the windows or logo...However, I am able to access all the files (Its appears as G drive OS along with 2 other partitions All folders and all files are intact and accessable) via a StarTech hard drive docking station connected via USB to my Dell XPS 8500...My son did not create a system image or backup project files that were on his desktop so while researching I am creating a back up (not a system image) of his G drive via 'DriveImage XML' to an external drive. I've purchased an identical Seagate hard drive to replace failed drive that was in 8300...So now what i need to know is whats the best way to proceed?

Windows 7 'create system image' only gives me option to create image of my 8500 C OS drive, not the G drive OS... Also, disk management shows the drive as having 3 partitions. The G drive is listed as #3 of 3 partitions? Shouldnt that be #2? The V drive shows as the 13.5 GB Recovery and theres 1 other smaller one. I cant remember what it's named but I dont want to look right now since the G backup is on its 34th freaking HOUR at 95% showing 2 hours left..(which in actuality will be closer to 5).At this point I wont even touch that computer to have it come back with 'Not Responding' after having devoted all that time... Any help with Software suggestions and/or solutions will be most appreciated.
Thank you, Sara

Hello and thank you for your reply. Im sorry if I was confusing.,. It wasnt stuck at 95% - it had just taken all that time to get to 95% backup at the time of my post - Its been chugging along and is now at 99%... and counting.... From reading similar posts Im thinking I need to download acronis and follow the directions I found on this link? Unless you have another suggestion?

Though written in response to a laptop question, it says the same would apply to a desktop below the article....
Thank you
