Ok, so i bought a new Acer Aspire S3, it came with a 320gb hybrid drive with a 20gb ssd. I installed linux to the ssd and when i try to restore my backup disks of win8 it just freezes at 17% and gives an error. The ssd originally had 2 partitions on it, i dont remember the sizes or what they were formatted to. If anyone could help out there, i could use it.
Thanks

It is a laptop, i bought it brand new it came with win8 preinstalled, it did not come with a cd drive, i bought a usb cd drive, it had a program "acer backup creater" i guess it made an image of the whole hard drive and burned it to dvds (10 dvds total". I used it before....

Probably need to wipe the drive completely before trying to re-install from backup. This can be done with, say, a Windows Vista/7/8 Installation disk using Drive Options (Advanced) at the 'Where do you want to install Windows' screen then exiting setup. Or use a Windows 8 Recovery disk and utilise the CMD Prompt. (Diskpart). Perhaps wipe with UBCD...

Create Recovery
If you don't have a Recovery/Installation disk get a friend running Windows 8/8.1 to create a Recovery Drive at the very least. Ensure their Installation is the same (Both 32 or64 bit). You'll need a blank CD (Win 8) or a small (1Gb) USB Pendrive. Simply type 'Create' at your Start Screen. Choose Create Recovery Drive from Settings (Win 8) or from list (win 8.1).
CD can only be created in Windows 8 using Windows 7 File Recovery.
Leave the box unchecked for the Recovery Partition.
Get into BIOS (Setup) and make USB Drive or Optical Drive 1st choice in the Boot menu, and boot from the Recovery Drive/Disk. Proceed via Troubleshoot to Advanced Options to get to Command Prompt.

Well, if you can format NTFS and use Legacy Boot ... even better if Gparted will simply wipe the drive and leave Unallocated Space...
