Hey there

I got myself a 2560x1440 Korean crossover monitor and was wondering what graphics upgrade to go for.
Currently using GeForce GTX 650 2GB. Would running two 650s with SLI give much more performance and run well in 1440p? Hoping to be able to run games like Guild wars 2/Wild star high graphics around 50+fps, or would going for a single 700series card be better? If so which one?

For what you want, you'll probably need a 780. People tend to forget that 2560x1440 is a LOT more pixels than 1080p, and you'll need a stronger graphics card - especially if you want high settings with 50FPS.

Another 650 isn't going to help you much.

Agreed. You need a R9 290(x) or 780 (Ti isn't worth it imho, I believe the 290x is a greater bang for the buck!)

Unfortunately you cannot SLI GTX 650s.

For 1440p I'd recommend at least 3GB of vram, you can make it work at 2GB (as I have for the past year) but you are cutting it seriously close in some games.
Something like an R9 280(x), R9 290 or GTX 780 depending on your budget and needs.

Thank you guys for your input.
What about a R9 270x that has 4GB vram? And is much cheaper than a R9 280x.

And would these high end cards be able to support dual monitors 1440p? Gaming on just the one monitor.

These new cards can support up to 3 monitors each. Hoever, with 2 1440 monitors, on high settings, to get 50 FPS... you'll probably need 2 GPUs. In that case I'd recommend 2 770's - 4GB models, in SLI.

Cheers man. Think i will just stick with one 1440p monitor.
So would the R9 270x that has 4GB vram handle gaming 1440p 50fps+ ? or should i go for the 280,290?

I'd go 780, but that's me.

You don't want to game with an even number of monitors... All of the stuff you see that's in the middle of your screen such as your character, crosshair, whatever, will be blocked off by your monitors border.

A 270x 4GB will probably be okay at 1440p. However I can't imagine a 280 (non X) is that much more.

As for whether it'll be enough it depends on what games you play and at what settings you want to play at. So give us some example of games you'll be playing (and possible future titles that we can estimate performance in) and the settings you want to run at. Wildstar and GW2 don't seem super demanding so you should be fine with a 270x/280.
