I need to upgrade my pc with a new graphics card and I need to know what is compatible.

Motherboard Name: Asus P5E3 Deluxe
PCI-E 2.0 x16 port #2 In Use @ x16 (ATI Radeon HD 2900)
PCI-E 2.0 x16 port #3 In Use @ x16 (ATI Radeon HD 2900)

The pc is 5 yrs. old and I would like to upgrade it so it can last a bit longer.

Looking for one GPU that can replace these 2 current cards and the one will be more powerful than the 2 I have current.

what is compatible and what is best, price is not a worry maybe if someone could tell me what would just plug in from box and maybe give #1,#2,and #3 choices and I can look into them?

i don't know what you cpu is or what res monitor you use but............. I ran a q9550 for a while and if you put something bigger than a 2gig 6950 it's a waste.

gtx750/7790/260x/6950.................. anything bigger will not benefit and if you have a lesser cpu than I listed.................

well the motherboard supports these socket types, Intel® Core™2 Quad / Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D so that narrows down the cpu question.

well if he had a cpu that would bottleneck his system if he had put a powerful gpu inhis system, then that is where it would matter swifty.

the one he listed is the big boy for 775................. with the 6950 there will be times of cpu bottlenecks........

Can i get a full name of your choice GPU if need be a link with specs as well but a full name is fine to so i can research it?

price is no problem i had planned on spending $300-$500 on a card anyways so i can get rid of the 2 i have with crossfire and just use the one.

the one he listed is the big boy for 775................. with the 6950 there will be times of cpu bottlenecks........ I cant understand what your trying to say haha !
But since his desktop is 5 years old then using intuition we can discern that there will be some form of bottleneck. And wont it be hard to find a 6950 still avaible that isnt jacked up on price due to it being from an older generation, 7950's are expensive as hell in alot of places, maybe the new r series O.o ?

I would say a gtx 760, hes got the watts on his psu to run it if it indeed is 1000, however you may not have the correct 6 pin or 8 pin connecters but he could use molex's for that. And there will be a bottleneck but for christ sake he has amd 2900's here.

what am I trying to say.............. he doesn't have enough cpu power for a bigger card to take advantage of it.

OP........ it doesn't have to be a 6950.......... look at charts........... any card similar in performance would be fine.......... get one with 2gigs of vram........ I prefer not to get something with a 128bit memory interface...... ( bigger )
