I just upgraded my motherboard and when started my computer windows 7 would not boot up. Was I supposed to uninstall the old motherboard drivers before I put the new board in? How do I get my computer up and running?

Solution
OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:
- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel
- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on
- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard
- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

So you would have to buy a retail version of windows 7 after that you can upgrade as much as you want.

If there is nothing important on your old hard drive you are better just getting a new retail license and start fresh.
if it was the same chipset it might not have been a problem but.................. lets not go there yet. what does it do when you hit the power button? get to BIOS? get to where the desktop should show and you get a black screen?

do you have the install disc ( opsys )?

all electrical connections are on and tight?

If your motherboard/chipset are very different then it won't boot due to the hard drive controller drivers.
If you made a windows 7 repair disk or have a windows 7 cd NOT Restore cd's as they will format and delete your files.
follow the instructions on this page: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=24245
Also you may have to turn off secure boot in bios to get this to work.
use Fix_7hdc.vbs /enable /search
You can also run this on a windows 7 PE disk and have file on a usb thumb drive.
All you need to do is to get to a command prompt, you might be able to get to it from f8 and repair your computer then it will check for other problems and you can get to a command prompt from there under system recovery options.

Once you boot into a command prompt and Fix_7hdc.vbs /enable /search then exit restart when windows 7 loads put the motherboard cd drivers in and install all the drivers.

Its posting and I have bios, but when I tell it to start windows normally it doesn't boot and reverts back to the black screen that has the option to "start windows normally" or the repair windows. when I choose the other option it scans windows for a problem then eventually basically just says it has no idea why its not booting? is this a driver issue?

did you read my post? you could download a windows 7 pe disk download Fix_7hdc.vbs put it on a usb flash drive, boot pe disk with flash drive in and start command prompt.
Then select the flash drive letter prob e: and type Fix_7hdc.vbs /enable /search
if you have access to another computer with windows 7 you can make a windows 7 rescue cd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5DzduNRZdA
step by step guide: http://tinyapps.org/blog/windows/201402170715_bsod_after_motherboard_swap.html
or you could get to command prompt by pressing f8 before boot and repair my computer and advanced recovery options and command prompt.
Then with the flash drive with Fix_7hdc.vbs on it cd [drive letter of flash drive] then type in Fix_7hdc.vbs /enable /search

what happened to the old board? does it work?............... and if you had the oem DISC you could have reformatted with the new board............ same chipset board would have helped and may have caused NO problems. ................ now you're stuck unless you can fool it back by reinstalling old board. ................. i buy operating systems........... bet most people here do.

Hello,

I just wanted to post a solution that worked for me as it was really a quick fix. I started doing dism solution from all the threads and then accidentaly red a solution that would save my life. I just changed BIOS storage settings from AHCI to IDE.This way i could load up Windows and install my new mobo drivers.

Hope this helps!
