I'm building a computer for the first time and was wondering if I'm doing something stupid. Not planning on any serious video rendering or the like, just casual gaming (and serious Starcraft ;)

Case: NZXT Source 210 Mid Tower Case
Processor: AMD FX-8350 CPU (8x 4.00GHz/8MB L3 Cache)
Cooling: Liquid CPU Cooling System [AMD] - ARC Dual Silent High Performance Fan Upgrade
Memory: 8 GB [4 GB X2] DDR3-1866 Memory Module - ADATA XPG V2
Graphics: AMD Radeon R7 250 - 2GB
Mo’board: ASUS M5A97 R2.0 -- AMD 970
PSU: 600W OCZ ModXStream Pro - 80 PLUS
HD: 2 TB 7200RPM HARD DRIVE + 128GB SanDisk SSD
Sound: 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard
Network Card: Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100)

Price range is <1000, ideally closer to 800. Cheaper the better as long as performance is approximately the same!

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Well, you can fit a R9 280 for $770, and a R9 270X for even cheaper.

You're going to want to spend less on your CPU and more on your GPU at that budget. Consider a 6300 and a possible 270X.
That's for about $700 though, here's something I put together at your maximum budget for maximum performance.

It's under your $1000 budget, with a Z97 motherboard, (you can choose another one) an overclockable i5 4690K processor, a solid noctua cooler, 8 GB of ram, and a beastly graphics card, a R9 290.

Expect more than 60 frames on any game on it's highest presets.

Wow, thank you! Were I to stay at the 700ish point, would a R9 280 3GB be preferable to R9 270X 2GB? It looks like it's cheaper due to the father's day sale, unless i'm misunderstanding how "instant off" works

But, if you wanted to save money and go with a R9 270X, you would only be saving about $40, which I think the downupgrade from 270X to 280 wouldn't be worth.
