Hi guys I'm new to these forums so hi :)

I am having issues with my fx8320 which is running on an ASUS m5a99fx pro R2.0. My issue is that the cpu seems to be stuck on a multiplier of 7x which is the default power saving idle setting. This gives me a clock speed of ~1400mhz. The cpu is on 0.8v vcore stock, but even at 1.28v (recommended for 3500mhz) it sits on 7x @ 1400mhz.

Also my 1600mhz RAM is clocking at 577-800mhz max.

I have tried the following:

Disabled/Enabled in BIOS:
Cool N Quiet
C1E
Core C6
SVM
HPC
APM,

I have tried all 3 stock settings in the EZ mode bios page, as well as manually setting the cpu to its 17.5x multiplier (3500mhz) using recommended settings.

Windows 8 power plan is set to high performance with minimum and maximum cpu states at 100%, system cooling policy on passive.

When I use Prime95 to stress test the cpu CPU-Z shows no change in the cpu multiplier or frequency even after 10-15 minutes of load. It's like the system is stuck in power saving mode even though I've disabled every power saving feature I can find.

I have used AMD Overdrive to no avail. Funnily enough if I manually set the multiplier in AMD OD to 8x windows task manager shows the cpu sitting on 3000mhz even though CPU-Z shows its stuck on 1400.

AMD PSCheck will not allow any power state other than 1400mhz 0.8v.

I'm at a loss as I am not all that familiar with clocking cpus, but I would like to get the performance my cpu is apparently capable of, so any help is appreciated.

Solution

If this fails i suggest doing a bios update and doing a full bios reset.
Kill the power, pull the battery, short the bios jumper on the motherboard.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have set the cooling policy to Active, no change.

I have the latest bios update and have cleared cmos many times in the past week while trying to get this guy working.

I will be taking the mobo back tomorrow for a replacement to see if that is the issue. I only got the mobo last week!
