I currently have four DDR2 sockets in my computer with 1gb in each which gives me 4gb currently. I am trying to upgrade to 8 gb, and the highest gb RAM my motherboard can have is 2gb in each slot.

I have a lot of trouble finding a 4x2gb package of ram and I do not even know what DDR2 ram is compatible with my motherboard.

Do I have to purchase two separate 2x2gb sticks? And how do I know what is compatible with my motherboard?

My system is the Dell XPS 630i

I did a similar thing a while back, had 2 completely different pairs of RAM. It worked fine, I just clocked the slowest ones as high as possible and the fast ones dropped down to match.
