Hey guys, my first post on the forums!

I'm encountering a problem with my PC, before I start here's my setup..

Processor: i7 3770k
Ram: 1x 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz
Graphics Card: Palit GTX 660
Power Supply: Corsair CX600 Modular
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 120GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 650GB, 1TB WD re3
Motherboard: Asrock Extreme4 z77
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 2013 Liquid Cooler (thicker pipes)
Optical Media: pioneer bluray drive
Additional accessories: 1x 120mm top mounted fan, 2x front 240mm fans
Case: Corsair 300r

So, my idle temps are a minimum of 35 degrees C fluctuating to 40 degrees C, sometimes 45 in this hot weather (room temp of 25-30c), running torture tests my CPU goes up to 85C after about 30 mins of torture testing with prime95, I've re-seated the CPU many times and it does not make a difference! I'm currently using Arctic MX-2 thermal compound which I've heard is good,

some additional information is my bios is set to "full-on" on everything, also turbo mode is on (multiplier between 16-39)

so I know these temps are bad, can anyone help?

thanks in advance!

Bear in mind you will ALWAYS get scary temps when running a torture/synthetic test, not only that, but you will rarely ever reach those tempos when doing things like gaming. (You can prevent it by upgrading to a custom loop, or solve entirely by underclocking the cpu/ or cleaning any dust in the fins of the radiator OR add high static pressure fans onto your rad!)
Torture tests bring my CPU to around 80-85C... Doing gaming, benchmarks, some editing I never reach above 57C... Huge difference as you can see, and I use an AIO watercooler, not a fancy custom loop or anything above average. Not to mention Haswell runs hot... But you have a 3770k so you don't have the same heat issues, or atleast not as severely :) .

Those temps are fine. Although if the temps in your area (like the outside weather & in-room temps) are too high I'd recommend upgrading to a 240mm or 280mm radiator liquid cooling, or underclock or CPU..

Do you have enough space for an extra fan on the H60? I added an extra 120mm fan I had lying around for a push/pull setup a few days ago and I've seen a 3-5*C drop. Might be worth a try.

I've got 2 fans on the cooler atm :) it didn't really make any difference to my temps though i've got to say! probably not a strong enough second fan perhaps!

This seems to help a lot, I just say 85 degrees and shut it off instantly so I didn't wreck the CPU, you are right, my temps do seem a bit high in games though even for this weather, my CPU reaches 75 degrees C when gaming (using core temp in the background to measure maximum temperature for 20 mins of play), I won't even go into video editing as it eats up my CPU! I was starting to think my CPU was defective or something, kinda scary cos its still quite expensive!
