Cant decide whether to go with i5 4690K or i7 4770K

Hey guys,

Im buying a new cpu - mobo - ram, for my computer. Right now i have:

- R9 280x Vapor X
- Thermaltake 750W PSU
- 840 PRO 256gb ssd

I was going to go with the new 4690K, but then i noticed that i7s have hyper threading technology. Im planning to keep this build for a few years. I want something future-proof and the only reason im hesitating for the i7 is because of the price difference.

Will next generation games use the hyper threading tech? If you think that the i7 is worth the exrtra 35 pounds or so, then im going to get one.

Also, what motherboard would you recommend. Im looking for a simple one (Crossfire isnt necessary), that has OC capabilities for i5 or i7.

From what ive been reading, Very few games utilize Hyper Threading, However some newer games are starting too, So id go with the 4770K or 4790K for futureproofing, If your planning another upgrade in a year or 2, then go with i5.

If you run background programs whilst gaming, The hyper threading can help to.

Games don't use hyper-threading.

You can choose i5 4690K and save money.

If you choose i7, games will load bit faster but the performance would be the same.

Update: For motherboard, you can choose a simple B85 chipset board. Otherwise Asus H81 would be good because I've been hearing things that ASUS is an avid motherboard builder for HASWELL CPU's.

Thank you for your answer.

Im not running any background processes during games. I mostly use the pc for gaming, movies and internet browsing. No video editing and staff like that...

That's exactly what i have been reading too.

Im not planning to upgrade mobo-cpu-ram in the near future. Im going to stick with them for 4-5 years.
So an i7 may have significant difference in the future...

Im not sure if your aware or not however Haswell-E is due to launch this year with Octacore CPU's (8 cores - 16 Threads) and DDR4 Memory support X99 Chipset if I recall, And when these launch the current High end i7's should drop in price.

I personally will wait for 2nd Generation of the 8 Core CPU and DDR4 memory so they can figure out the kinks... Just something to think about tho.
