Will a GTX 770 run next-gen games?

I am planning to buy myself a windforce 770. No other options available, so don't tell me I should buy a 780 - I know, but I can't. So, my question is, will the 770 max out next-gen games on 1080p like The Witcher 3 and GTA V? Note that I'm going to overclock the crap out of it. :vip:

ANY GTX 770 will do the job just choose the one in your price range, even a PNY GTX 770 will do you just make sure you can get a GTX 770 with 4GB of VRAM as newer games use more VRAM than what they used to, all GTX 770's run pretty cool it really just comes down to how quiet the card is (unless your using headphones than it doesn't really matter) and how it looks, a little over clocking can be done on all cards for a bit more performance, what i would suggest is tinkering with the settings and have a mix of low medium high and ultra, things like shadow can be turned down to like medium as visually you can't really see the difference and you can get a few more fps for no compromise, if you have anymore questions I'm around quite often...

Pssst.. Windforce cools better and quieter than ACX, just a side note. so tbh it'll overclock better too

Yea my bad I should have not said that. I actually looked more into it and it turns out the windforce was better. I actually just bought one. But as far as looks go, I think the evga would have taken it.

I hope your expectations aren't terribly high for overclocking the GTX 770. Its basically a GTX 680 that's already had the crap overclocked out of it. You can try, and probably get it a little further, but most don't have much headroom left.

Developers and publishers better hope the GTX 770 can play so-called "next-gen" games at high/max settings at 1080p, because the vast majority of gamers have nothing anywhere near as fast.

I completely agree not to buy the GTX 780 unless you're running a 1440p display.

It won't run witcher 3 maxed out. I can assure you of that. Unless the game is amazingly optimized. The developers even delayed the game because a 780ti couldn't even max it out on 1080p at 60fps. For every other game though, expect great performance at great settings for the next couple years.

I'm sure that was the situation for most games today, the engine is able of creating visuals beyond todays capability but of course it must toned down so today's hardware can manage it. Im sure Witcher 3 will run maxed out at 1080p by its release. The last stage in a games development is optimization until then the game is sometimes unplayable without it being pre-rendered for the devs to work with.
