This is my 1st build in 20 years and a lot has changed. This is a new build from scratch. I have an Asus P9X79 motherboard with the latest Bios (4806). I installed a VisionTek 7750 GPU that pushes 6 monitors through Display Port; no other connection types are available on the card. In my research prior to ordering all components, I found comments from someone who did a new build using the same motherboard, CPU (i7 4820K LGA 2011), and a VisionTek multi-monitor card albeit a slightly different series. From his comments it sounded as though his GPU worked on his first startup. Mine did not and I’m getting the red VGA LED indicator so I have to assume this card may not be supported right out of the gate.

I’m also getting the red ‘Boot Device’ LED but I suspect this could be due to the system not finding a VGA card during the boot sequence. I thought about buying a cheap VGA card just to get started but decided to do some research to make sure I know what this BIOS will recognize during the initial boot sequence. I am unable to find any information to indicate what type of card this motherboard will recognize on initial startup and thought I’d post the question here. This board seems to be a great source of info and has already helped me find and fix one other problem.

I’m hoping someone here can tell me if any generic VGA card will be recognized during the boot sequence or if I need to do something else. Thanks to anyone who can offer help.

BTW – my case does not have a speaker to help diagnose startup issues. I also noticed the BIOS version changed from 4806 to 4810 while I was typing this. Also, on startup this board goes through a series of diagnostics and as far as I can tell right now, the CPU and DRAM seems to be okay.

I have resolved part of it. I decided to unplug everything and reattach one device at a time. The issue is with one of my SATA HDD drives although I'm not sure how that prevented the BIOS utility from appearing.

Just in case someone is researching a similar issue in the future; the VisionTek 7750 card is supported by this motherboard right out of the box. Full model info - VisionTek 7750 Eyefinity 6 2GB DDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card 900614
