Should I even bother upgrading yet?

Currently there's a r9 290 going for $449 AU, which is $80 less than usual price. I currently have a Hd 7870 (which can't run BF4 and a lot of the newer games on ultra which is kinda my reason for upgrading at the moment)

I'm not sure if I should get the new card, or, wait for the new line of GPU's to come out and then upgrade. Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do or any recommendations?

More about : bother upgrading

Well an R9 290 is quite a jump up from the HD 7870, so it would be worthwhile upgrade.

There are always new cards 'about to come out' so there is a danger of playing the waiting game. New cards aren't likely to show up much before Christmas so I guess the question is can you make do with the 7870 until then?

The 290 is a solid card with a wide memory bus and all the latest add ons from AMD (it includes True Audio for example which isn't on other cards besides the 260X) so I don't think there is any danger of it being out of date any time soon even when the next gen cards come out.
