Front panel frustration

I'm setting up a new computer for my mother to use, and have put all the components in the case as usual... motherbeats seated well, GPU slotted in firmly, RAM, brand new CPU, etc. The motherboard is an Intel DH67BL. I found this link as a reference for the F_Panel http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-009016.htm?wapkw=front+panel

Anyway the case I'm using is some Cooler Master case (it's not written on it, I think that it is a cooler master RC-692-KWN1) that I got for free from a friend, unfortunately it came with the most obnoxious front panel connectors I've ever seen... they are all different colors, separated into single connectors unlike most which have two connector plugs. On top of that the only thing I have to go on as to which goes where is something that might as well be gibberish to me - there's a little sticker on the cord for the f_panel cords, which says this;

yellow = Port1L
red = Port1R
green = Port2R
blue = Port2L
black = AUD GND
orange = sense_send
brown = sense1_return
grey = sense2_return

These colors obviously correspond to the F_Panel cords, but none of those words mean anything to me. Oh and the green cord and blue cord both have two connectors on them.

I should mention that these F_panel cords come off of a longer cord that connects the HD Audio to the motherboard and it also has the AC'97 audio connector there too... I had thought maybe they weren't the right plugs for the F_Panel, except there's nothing else there that looks at all like F_Panel connectors and I'm 99% sure they were plugged into the F_Panel when I removed them from the old motherboard that was originally in the case.

Either way I was trying to connect them at random, hoping for a result. I managed to get the computer to turn on for about 5 solid seconds at one point, with one of the plugs in where I think the power goes. This was accompanied by a godawful high pitched screech - loud enough for the whole household to be annoyed.

I also learnt that whoever said playing around with the F_Panel plugs couldn't damage anything was probably full of shit, when I plugged both green plugs into the two slots for power (red on that diagram and on the mobo) some smoke came out...

At this point I'd rather not touch the thing until I can find some advice on how to do it properly because experimenting is both frustrating and seemingly dangerous. I'm also convinced that whoever designed F_Panels was trolling the world.

Hi Nakor
download your case manual from here
http://www.coolermaster.com/service/support/model/RC-692/
look at page 5 , it shows you where to plug in the panel connectors , one pin is missing that will show you which side and where to place them , hd audio goes to tha audio header on your motherboard , you do not need to plug in the ac97

I realized looking at the manual that the Port1L/R stuff is clearly for Audio and not the FPanel. They aren't labelled at all, each one is a different color (blue split x2, green split x2, red, black, orange, grey, white, etc). If you actually read my post in its entirety you'd see my problem isn't knowing where to plug the pins in - it's in discovering which pins are what.

[edit]
I've put the black cord in as a 'ground', and orange and white in the power switch. This doesn't seem to actually make the power switch work as far as I can tell, but it does make it so whenever I switch the main power on in the back (ie from 0 to 1) the computer turns on... and promptly gives me a memory error (3 quick beeps) then powers off again. I've also confirmed the memory works in other computers, so idk now, but I guess that's for a different thread.
