i had a i had a core 2 duo 2.4 ghz plugged in and for some reason i replaced it on my motherboard (intel DG31PR) with Pentium dual core 1.6 ghz both the CPU work perfectly fine but i installed windows 8 on my pc then my Pentium was taking too much load so i switched it with core 2 duo and when i turned it on it wouldn't boot i was like the power cable was unplugged when i saw the motherboard it had all lights on but the lights on the computer casing like boot led and DVD ROM led never turned on
then i switched back to Pentium it worked perfectly fine . #note :- core 2 duo was working fine before the change # . what should i do ??

Something killed it, maybe poor handling, maybe it was so run down that the very act of removing it caused it to die, maybe it was static, maybe a combo of each. What you can do is try to take it to somebody that has a compatible socket and see if it works for him.

nope tried it in the same motherboard

Could just need to be re-seated in the CPU socket.

Could also have a bent pin or dirt on a contact pad. Check for those on both the CPU and socket.

Could be your BIOS didn't like the switch. If the PC will POST and you can get into BIOS, try re-loading defaults.
