i have a p5g41t-mlx3 asus motherboard
will the amd r7 240 2gb ddr3 or rather r7 240 1 gb ddr5 be compatible with my pc?
400 w power supply.
any sort of pci problem?

Solution
The 240 doesn't require power connectors, so you're fine there. And considering your system will run about 150-175w at max power draw, even 400w is plenty of power to run a 240.
Power supplies need to fit 2 rather important considerations other than that they have to be reliable and of high quality.

1. They have to provide adequate power to provide the required current to all components.
2. They have to have the correct connectors to connect to all the components.

Yours fail on 1. It does not have sufficient power.
Since you did not provide a make/model, I can't even begin to guess if it would pass the second requirement, but that's moot anyway, since it already fell short. :)

THANK YOU for the reply:)
sorry but after checking (opening my pc) i found it be 450W(though doesnt seem to be so diff from the 400w) supply as on the box(ticked).
i am updating from 2 gigs of ram to 6 by adding a 4 gb to other slot(ddr3)
currently i have a asus amd 5450 (1gb) .i need an update asap.
also, it woud be very helpful if you could suggest power supply change or graphic cards that may make new gen games playable(low/medium).
my budget is around 8k(INR) (indian rupee).
and any further help to improve my pc?:)

i have the p5g41t mlx3 motherboard, does it have the required pci ex card slot( i believe it does as it has a pci ex1-2slots and pcie x16-1 slot!)
and is the 1 gb enough for running the high end games like blacklist, battlefield3,4 gta 4,5 , watchdogs(ofcourse at low/medium) , sleeping dogs...
thanks again for the quick replies:)
