win 7 stops responding when i copy or download something in local disk D.

win 7 stops responding when i copy or download something in local disk D. then i have to do hard reboot. scans from avast get stuck at a point and i have to reboot again. same goes with chkdsk process. i marked the local disk D as dirty and scheduled boot time chkdsk for it and the chkdsk scan also gets stuck near the end. PLEASE ! someone help me, i am at my wits end. i will really appreciate your help.


i have dell latitude e6400 with 2.4 ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram and intel gma 4500 mobility gpu.

is it a separate physical disk as disk c?

what do you mean? external hard disk or another hard disk as c? no .! its a single hard drive . the default one which
came with the laptop....
