Hello,

A few weeks ago I bought a new graphics card. A Club royalking r9 280.
Because I was using a HD7800 I thought it would just be an easy switch.
But when I plugged out the power, removed the HD and put in the R9,
windows doesn't boot. So I checked if I had plugged in the power correctly but this was not the problem. The fans were working but my pc didnt start, no sound, and when I press the power it stops right away.
So I removed the card and put in my old one, the HD7800. I returned the R9 to check if it could be broken. After a few days, they said that the card worked in their pc.
(That same week my hd7800 also broke down without any clue)
So they returned the R9 back to me, and it still isn't working.
The reccomended psu is 750w. But with a 620 it should be able to show motherbord intergrated graphics right?
I hope anyone of you has a solution because I don't know anymore...

PC specs:
Mainbord: Gigabyte Z77P-D3
CPU: I5-3570k
Memory: DDR3 8gb
Old GPU: club HD7800
PSU: Antek 620 watt

Greetings, Kris

Corsair makes excellent PSU's and they function quite well. Also since the one you are looking at is modular you would be able to make your setup very neat. 850W would also give you some future upgrading room for your GPU.

I would say go for that PSU for the quality, or take a look at EVGA's Supernova 850, EVGA has the best customer support around, and there PSU's are usually backed by a 10 Year Warranty.

You will probably need to upgrade your PSU. If a graphic card is plugged in, it usually will disable Intel integrated graphics. And if your GPU is drawing too much power, the PSU may not be delivering enough power to your CPU and motherboard, causing it not to boot. A 750W can be found for around $70 on amazon. It would be worth it to upgrade your PSU, and if you can afford more then upgrade it to a 850W+ so you can upgrade it further in the future.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Does the GPU start up with all its needed power? It will only need a low amount of Watts, but when playing a game on ultra it will consume more right? Because I have seen a R9 280 Sapphire run on a 600 watts, which is even less.
But I will try upgrading my psu.

No the GPU doesn't usually start up with its max power, but if you have a lot of components pulling power, CPU, HDD's, Disk Drives, etc. and the GPU doesn't get enough to function properly it will not start, or crash at start up. Also is your CPU over clocked? That would drain more power from the PSU as well.

No its not overclocked. I have 1hdd and 1ssd. A blue ray driver.
But I'll try to upgrade my PSU.
Let's hope that does the job.

If it doesn't work you can always return the PSU! Let me know if you would like some suggestions on some good PSU's.

Do you know anything about the Corsair RM Series 850W?
They are sold in a shop close by for 124 Euro's. (around 165$ if I'm correct)
Or do you have other suggestions?

Could you take some pictures fo your installed GPU so we can see if there are any problems with the installation?

According to PCPartPicker, your system should only draw around 360W of power (not including drives, so lets say 450w max). http://pcpartpicker.com/p/68ZzFT

You do not have to upgrade your CPU and motherboard just yet. Get those pics sorted and I'll try and help as much as I can.

Problem solved.
I didn't really know what I changed, but in the BIOS there is something with PCI, which I changed to Legacy.
Didn't know what it was but worth the shot! Everything is working fine right now.
Got my new 850w and R9 installed and everything looks great!
Thanks for the help, just my not knowing about pc's that made a problem...
Thanks!
