I'd be interested to hear about experiences with satellite Internet service. I recently became a customer at the cabin in the woods where I go to write books and have had some ups and downs. Wouldn't mind hearing input on the following issues I've been confronted with.

1. Router selection and connection. Does your satellite service recommend models and offer installation service, or at least advice?

2. Getting a phone line established using the same connection. Are these as reliable as a land line? I don't use the phone much out there.

3. Data Usage. I still have business to take care of, which requires uploading, downloading and installing new software. Are there any satellite services that can give me enough bandwidth to last the whole month/payment cycle? I ran out of the 15 Gigs on the first tier in my first week of service. (granted I was getting everything set up) But, I'm a little discouraged about having to do a a bulk of my Internet work in the free zone/middle of the night. That's a better time for writing....

Anything you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Been a while since i was on a satellite connection I hear they have improved it somewhat. The largest issue is latency you get almost 1/2 second of delays. For data this just makes things feel sluggish. For voice you can hear echo and you talk over each other. Voice and games the ISP themselves admit you will not get good results on satellite.

I would only use it when you have no other option. Cellular broadband tends to be faster if you are in their coverage area. It costs much more but is much faster and has much less delay. 16gig would cost you $160 but there is no cap, pretty much most charge about $10/gig.

Obviously you can get as much internet as you are willing to buy. I am sure they sell a plan they do not list if...
Really the only benefit of using a satellite internet connection is that often it's the only option in some areas.
What type of Router you use should not matter.
Phone connection is NOT as reliable, you may have weather outages or quality issues due to clouds or storm interference.
Data usage depends on the service you can get.
