I recently got a ASUS GTX 680 graphics card installed into my computer however there has been a problem with it.

I cant find any way to make the card work on my computer, according to device manager it reads that the card is there, but there is also another card that is above it called "intel(R) HD graphics 4000. I have tried disabling this card and seeing if that works but then my computer switches to the standard windows graphics card.
In the screen resolution settings there is an option for changing my screen to a screen labelled "available display output on: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 however trying to make this my main screen has led to only black screens and me having to restart my whole computer.
I have also updated all the necessary drivers for the card and tried just about everything I can find to fix this problem myself.
Any help would be great and i'm hoping this problem can be fixed easily.

The second graphics card is the onboard card.

1. Make sure your video output cord (HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc.) is plugged into the card itself.

2. Double check the information on your mobo and card to see if there is anything wrong between their compatibility

my hdmi cable is definitely plugged in.
i had someone put this graphics card in for me and he said that it was good to go so it should be compatible with the motherboard
would it be better if i got a dvi cable to hdmi cable instead of just a regular hdmi cable, or do i need both.
sorry if this is a stupid question, im new to having to use graphics cards like this.

It is better using a single cord instead of an adapter or adapter cord.

The other thing I can think of is that maybe your monitor is not supporting the card.

Okay I do not see anything wrong between them. I imagine you already have your power supply plugged into your card right?

one thing i might add is that on the screen resolution settings the graphics card is coming up as a separate display which i can enable and switch to, however i get a black screen on my monitor if i try to, so there's some problem with it. i'll post a screenshot of it if that helps
