Ok so I'm thinking about building my first gaming pc. I currently have a decent gaming laptop so I'm familiar with the hardware just not an expert like some of you.
My plan was to go with a gtx 770 for now and in about a year get another one for sli. Is this a good way to go about it or do you have a better idea?
Also what would be a good build for this plan or any that you think of. Thank you for your time it's much appreciated :)

I Think that is a good plan for you to keep up front costs down.

When you get the 770 make sure you go for a 4GB+ version. If you get a 2GB you can only SLI with another 2GB, and most games will start requiring more memory.

Rule of thumb SLI does not share memory, it is redundant, so if you have 2 2GB cards you still have only 2GB Vram.

The 770 4gb would be a good idea especially if you plan to get another next year however the cost of a 4 gb version isn't much less than a gtx 780.

I suggest you for a gtx 780...

True, if you can afford a 780 get one. However there is cheaper 770 4GB. I was only able to find a PNY 780 that was less then $100 more. Below is a 770 4GB from EVGA $390, and it has a ACX cooler on it.

I am not sure i would say significantly better, but yes it would be a definite improvement on speed. However it is completely overkill. 2 770's is more powerful then a Titan, and can support ultra graphics on 4K resolutions. The 2 780' can support Ultra with 2 4K resolution monitors.

You would need a serious setup to warrant 2 780's unless you are looking for bragging rights.

Yes, 2x gtx 780's will be significantly better than 2x 770's however if you're gaming at 1080p you might not need to get a second card and you can save some money.

Next Year the Maxwell gpu's will come out.

A single gtx 780 should be enough for 1080p.

I have a 780 ti and I upgraded from a gtx 780 because I upgraded my monitor to 1440p...

I also experimented with gtx 770's in sli and owned a gtx 670 in the past...

A single gtx 780 is almost as powerful as a first generation Titan for games...

Sounds like 780 is the way to go. When will the 800 series be available?

I think you will be happy with the 780, I suggest you buy the Asus gtx 780.

My guess is the Maxwell flagships will be released by the end of this year or early next year however nothing is confirmed...

Damn I definitely can't wait the long. I know you guys have helped me a lot already but can anyone suggest a full build that would be able to handle two gpu's down the road? I don't really have a budget but would still like to keep it as cheap as I can while still getting quality, also if there is anywhere that will put it together for me that'd be amazing :)  thanks again to everyone who's helped

Devils Canyon is coming out this month, I suggest you wait for it.

MAXIMUS VII HERO Z97
4790k "Devils Canyon"
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9 8GB 2x 4GB
Corsiar 750d
Corsair AX 860i
Corsair H 80i
ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5
Samsung Evo 250

The above solution is not cheap however it is very high quality and ready for SLI.
If you're not interested in SLI in the future you can get a RM 550 Power supply and buy a lower end Asus motherboard.

If you don't plan on overclocking you can just use the stock cooler however I don't recommend you do this.

You can also find a cheaper case than the 750d however it's great for a sli set up and compatible with the other corsair parts.
The case also looks good!

You can also get an I5 if you want to save more money.

I'm looking but don't know enough about fans and motherboards to know if ones actually good. This is my favorite site now you guys are awesome
