I bought an ASUS X79 DELUXE mobo along with G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200).

The problem I'm having is it boots up at 1600mhz when I did the first boot. When I go into the BIOS settings and change it from 1600 to 2400mhz, it won't boot. It just keeps restarting, turning off and restarting and the memory light on the mobo keeps flashing. I have to press/hold the memory button to reset the profile to get it to work.

I asked in another thread if I could use 2400mhz memory with this mobo and the i7-4930k and people said it wouldn't be a problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Update your bios. Your motherboard, while it will WORK with the Ivybridge-E 4930k, it may not be taking full advantage of its features (pci 3.0, being able to clock memory higher).

Your motherboard was likely shipped with a lower bios version, which was meant for sandybridge-e. After the bios update, you should be able to enable XMP profiles in your bios for 2400mhz.

No reason this shouldn't work after a bios update.

The more memory-modules are installed, the higher gets the "load" that the CPU needs to drive and the maximum speed reduces.
But in fact a high DDR3 memory speed is worth less than having lots of memory to avoid swapping the memory to the HDD or SSD.
With a pure memory test software you might see a small speed difference from 1600 to 2400 DDR3 memory, but in applications it is not that much performance-gain anymore. And as soon as your system starts to use virtual memory (swaps to the drive), the speed drops a lot.
Did you see the announcement from ASUS about 128GB?
Here it is: http://rog.asus.com/340082014/rampage-motherboards/max-your-mem-128gb-ddr3-support-on-rampage-iv-black-edition-and-asus-x79-motherboards/
