I just bought BF4 yesterday after playing BF3 extensively for 2 months. I had no problems with BF3 as I was able to max it out even with my out of date hardware.
BF4 on the other hand is the most frustrating game I have tried to play. It seems to work just fine on medium and high settings but as soon as I adjust the game to Ultra....it crashes right away to my desktop leaving me with that "Not Responding" message.
I don't understand why it's doing that every time I switch to Ultra, I can't even get it to run for a second on that setting. I'd understand if the game would lag on that setting given my outdated hardware but there's obviously something wrong with the game or my hardware for it to just flat out crash.
I'm running the game on an ATI Radeon HD 6870 1GB with Catalyst driver 14.4. My CPU is an AMD Phenom II X4 955. Again, I realize that my hardware is outdated but there is no reason for the game to crash.
You don't have enough VRAM to play on the Ultra settings. You need at least 2GB to run Ultra. running out of VRAM can cause a game to crash.
Ahh, I guess that makes sense. I wish BF4 would give a warning that I don't have enough VRAM like GTA IV did. Instead, the game just crashes without providing a reason which leaves people like me clueless as to why it's doing that. I heard BF4 has a lot of issues but I thought I'd give the game a try. Oh well, I plan to upgrade my PC soon anyways so I'll hang on to the game until then. Thanks anyways!
