How to put Windows 7 onto usb stick?

Hey,

I am going to soon build a desktop, and i need an OS, and i want to get windows 7 on it. I didnt get an optical drive as i really dont need one, and i also heard you could install an OS onto a usb stick, so i thought i would rather do that. I see on some forums that if you have a windows OS already on a desktop or laptop ( my brother has a windows 7 laptop) you can move the OS onto the usb stick somehow, then put it on your desktop and have windows 7 for free. If someone could say how i could do this or show me a good video or forum that would be great! thanks!

Yea well, no way to get it free (at least not legally :D )
You can find a source for downloading the Windows 7 ISO like this one...

You need to download an official W7 ISO (not using an already installed version) and then use the Microsoft USB/DVD tool (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool).

And when you install you still need to purchase a product key.

There is no legal way to get W7 for free.

here a free tool all you need do is run it with the windows 7 cd in the drive or copy the iso to the hard drive or download the iso from digital rivers. then have a fat32 formatted 4g or larger usb stick ready. when it done making the usb stick pulg the usb stick into the usb 2.0 port on your new rig. set the bios to boot from the usb stick. when the usb stick you see a quick message hit any key to boot from cd. hit any key and then start the window install.

Those are NOT illiegal, and you can just download them and use the Microsoft USB/DVD Tool to get it on to the USB, but you have to purchase a key afterwards :)
