GPU blocking PCI Express x1 slot. Will wireless adapter work and perform as expected in a PCI Express x16 slot?

The wireless adapter requires a PCI Express x1 slot. The issue is, is that the GPU will block the only PCI Express x1 slot on the motherboard. I was wondering if the wireless adapter will work as intended in a PCI Express x16 slot?

**Motherboard** | [Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard](

**Wireless Network Adapter** | [TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter](

**Video Card** | [Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2GB Dual-X Video Card](

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
