Currently have a Q9550 together with a 9800GTX+.
I have now a budget around 1200$ to buy a motherboard, cpu, memory, gpu and 212 evo cooler. I want this build to last around 4 years. Gaming, other everyday tasks.
Currently thinking of buying 4790k, VII Hero, 2x4gb memory Gskill, GTX780 ASUS and 212 EVO cooler. I already have the rest of the build
Thank you

Solution
Gtx 780 will give you overall better performance, but in some games r9 290 can be better. Tough choice, because you have to give credit to amd despite what some people say about it. Personally i stick to intel-nvidia.

good build, you could save by getting an i5 if you aren't really gonna use hyperthreading. Also can get a cheaper motherboard if you want. The only changes I'd make I guess is saving money, but the parts you chose are good.

I have this 1200$ to spend on these parts, I liked the board (ROG boards are my dream board since the socket 775 :p), I have no problem of paying 100$ extra for the cpu, it will help maybe in the future.

Just a question, between the GTX780 and r9 290, any difference between them ? (i know the price is different, but other than this)

The r9 290 is known for being a lot louder than the 780 but if you get an aftermarket cooler (evga, asus, gigabyte, etc.) then that should be taken care of. The 290 also has better price/performance but the largest factor is the optimization of the game. The 290 in general performs a little bit better I believe, but the 780 has features like shadowplay which are really useful if you are into recording gameplay.

I read about the R9 290, the reference is loud, also it is power hungry. Even in some aftermarket cooler some are still hot, a good aftermarket solution is more expensive and close to the price GTX 780. Is GTX 780 ASUS a good option ?

Asus is a great option. But i would still consider Msi and Evga. Asus overclocks really well. The other two have higher clocks already. Any of those three will be a good choice. Flip a coin maybe ;)

The asus is around 488$ + 10$ rebate at newegg with watchdogs free. Msi and EVGA little more.

You cant go wrong here. Asus is a great choice, a lot of people praise that card. Plus you have got a game which you can sell before opening it amd get some extra cash, unless you want to try it.

Cooler will be fine for reasonable overclocking. For ram i would go for g.skill ripjaws or corsair vengeance, both 1600mhz or more.

In my opinion the game is a letdown but some people like it. Im not a fan of that kind of games, so i can be wrong.

I will download one from the internet and test it before activating the cd key, if its good then I will use it. Can you give me some links of the memories? (newegg or amazon).
In the beginning a normal overclock maximum. Will it handle ?
