I am purchasing the 280x and would like to know which version I should get, Gigabyte Windforce or the Sapphire dual-x.

Right now I am leaning towards Gigabyte because it is $15 less. I am not interested in overclocking and mostly just care about sound and heat. Is there a reason I should pay $15 dollars more for dual-x?

How do these editions compare in sound and heat?

Both are good cards, but I would go with Gigabyte Windforce because it has higher clock speed. And it is rather quiet and cool. You can always water cool it if you're worried.

Have you considered XFX's R9-280X-TDFD model? I am very happy with mine. I've had it clocked-in at the 1GHz (1000MHz) "Boost" frequency since day one, and I've never had to manually ramp-up the fans on it. It's whisper quiet inside my Fractal Design Define R4 case, and while gaming using the stock fan profile, the GPU core has never topped 72C while the VRMs have never topped 74C.

XFX's warranty is also longer, and far more liberal than Sapphire's or Gigabyte's. XFX actually allows end-users in North America to MOD their cards without voiding the warranty. (So long as the card can be returned to it's O.E. condition prior to any return for service.)
